Adventures in Egypt VBS 2026

Day 1

Today the children learned about a young man named Joseph. He was the favorite son of his father, but his jealous brothers sold him into slavery. Despite such terrible treatment, Joseph knew that he could still trust the Lord.

Our children can face all sorts of difficult situations. God wants us to know that even when terrible things are happening to us, he is still there for us. He encourages us to call out to him in our time of need and trust his love and care for us.

The Bible verse for today is from Psalm 50:15 "Call upon me in the day of trouble. I will deliver you and you will honor me."

These are some of the activities we did to connect with what we heard in our Bible lesson: Creating Joseph's coat of many colors in art with paint, string, and pastels. They played outdoor games like "Brother, Brother, Joseph" and “Coat of Many Colors“ relay race. Science was hands on activities experimenting with tie dye and color!

Day 2

Today the children saw how God turned Joseph’s troubles into a huge blessing for him and the people of Egypt. When lies were told about Joseph, he ended up in prison. Even there, he trusted the Lord and gave glory to God in the way he treated others.

When we have been wronged or hurt by someone else, it can be very difficult for us to feel like forgiving them. Sometimes, we even get angry with God, and we take out our anger on others. Joseph didn’t do that. He continued to trust that God hadn’t forgotten about him and that God had plans for him that he didn’t necessarily understand at the moment.

The Bible verse for today is from Romans 8:28 "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose."

These are some of the activities we did to connect with what we heard in our Bible lesson: For art the kids made pictures of the grainfields and pyramids. This project reminds us of how Joseph instructed the Egyptians to fill storehouses of grain to feed the people during the years of famine. We enjoyed several relay races like “Storing Up the Grain” and “Passing the Grain Sacks.” For science the kids first watched a short video about the flooding of the Nile River. They then planted barley in bowls to take home!

Day 3

Today the children learned how the Israelites cried out to the Lord for help during a time of great oppression. The Lord raised up a helper for them in Moses. God had plans for Moses from little on. God had plans for your little ones before they were born. With so many professionals out there for every kind of need, sometimes we forget that we can call on him.

The Bible verse for today is from Psalm 121:2 "My help comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth."

These are some of the activities we did to connect with what we heard in our Bible lesson: For art the children made Baby Moses pictures and burning bushes to remind us of how God protected Moses and guided him to help the Israelites. The children enjoyed the relay race “Baby Moses in a Basket” and other games like “Alligators in the Nile River.” For science the kids first watched a short video clip from Prince of Egypt. The youngest and middle kids played “Sink and Float” with various objects. The older kids made foil baskets and then raced them on the “Nile River” by blowing through straws.

Day 4

What an amazing week we had at VBS!  First, we learned how the Lord took care of Joseph and blessed many people through him.  Then, we saw how the Lord watched over Moses and used him to bring his people out of slavery.

These events provide a mighty display of God’s power.  But God’s strength is seen in more than just God delivering people from slavery.  He delivered us from slavery to sin, death, and hell.  Even greater than parting the waters of the sea for the Israelites, God has removed the barrier that existed between sinners and a holy God.  In Jesus, we see that the Lord is our salvation in the greatest possible way, in a way that changes our whole eternity.  That truth gives us strength to bear all sorts of trials in this life.  That truth becomes a song of joy in our hearts that can be seen and heard in all we think, say, and do.

The Bible verse for today is from Exodus 15:2 "The Lord is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation."

These are some of the activities we did to connect with what we heard in our Bible lesson: For art the kids made pictures of crossing the Red Sea that reminds us of how God led the Israelites out of Egypt and saved them from the Egyptian army.  For games we enjoyed relay races like “Ready to Travel” and “Chariot Race,” and we also played “Moses Says” (like Simon Says). The children also got to sample some Passover-like foods, lamb and unleavened bread!

Ending our week at VBS, we had a wonderful program where the children got to share the songs, Bible verses, and Bible lessons they learned this week with their families! After the program we enjoyed a pizza lunch with everyone!

Thank you so much to the families for allowing us to share God's word with your children this week and to all our wonderful volunteers who helped make this week happen! God's bless!
